I’m sorry but it confuses me why everyone freaks out about diamond rings

The reason opals are not good engagement ring stones is because they are suuuuper soft and get scratched easily, meaning they have to be replaced often. Diamonds (and most other gemstones) are hard enough to withstand the daily wear an engagement ring gets.

However, the reasons diamonds are associated with engagements is due SOLELY to a marketing campaign by DeBeers.
